PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. -- Seven students from Mills University Studies High recently earned the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy. The Seal of Biliteracy is a nationally recognized certification providing proficiency in English and another language, in this case, Spanish.
Congratulations to the following students: Marcos Alvarez, Dayanara Congreras, Evelin Martinez, Sucely Mayora, Rita Montiel, Adirai Rodriguez, and Angel Rojas.
"I am honored to be one of the first students to receive the Seal of Biliteracy in the whole district,” said Rita Montiel. “I feel like receiving this award will open doors to many new opportunities I will love. I am proud of myself and my classmates for being able to accomplish this."
"I am so incredibly proud of these students, '' said teacher Diana Brown. “I have watched them grow up from middle school, and I am amazed at what all they have achieved. I am grateful to them for taking the initiative to earn the Seal of Biliteracy in its first year at Mills. I am also grateful to Mr. Clayton and the Mills High administration for supporting the growth of the World Languages program at Mills High. ¡Mil gracias a todos!"
Only 780 students in Arkansas achieved this honor this year. The students can use this certification for college, scholarship, and job applications.
