Last Friday (9/30), 4th grade students from Crystal Hill, Oak Grove and Pine Forest elementary visited Maumelle High for a special STEMusic concert. Mr. Roy Moye III, founder of STEMusic, visited with the students to talk about the importance and impact of STEM in our everyday lives. He sang a song for each part of STEM. Ask your 4th graders if they remember any of the songs!

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. Research shows that dyslexia has no relationship to intelligence, but the way they think can be an asset in achieving success. #pcssdproud #equityandexcellence


One of the important lessons in AVID is teaching students the importance of organization. One way to stay organized in the classroom is with a binder. These kindergarten students enjoyed setting up their binders earlier this week.

Ms Franklin’s first graders created piñatas out of boxes. They used pattern block shapes to create their designs. On some you will see butterflies and pineapples. On some you will see overlapping. Students can’t wait to take them home and show their families! This month's book is "The Piñata that the Farm Maiden Hung" by Samantha R. Vamos.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) lessons are applied to a variety of courses and skills that students use daily. It is fun to see students of all ages learn that STEM is Lit! #pcssdproud #equityandexcellence

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Sergeant’s class have been learning about the letter O. After reading this month's STEM is LIT book, they each created an octopus piñata. This month's book is "The Piñata that the Farm Maiden Hung" by Samantha R. Vamos. Great work students!

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, students in Ms. Sweet's first grade class made piñatas. Ms. Sweet incorporated STEM lessons in the project so that students learned engineering as well as Hispanic culture.

Just a reminder - Maumelle High School will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, October 7 at 5 p.m. at Maumelle High School for its upcoming "Building for the Future" projects. Construction is set to begin this fall on a new track, indoor practice facility, softball field, and baseball field.
