MAUMELLE -- Imagine how cool it would be to build a robot hand that could grasp a ball or picks up a toy. In a recent robotics engineering project, students at Maumelle Middle learned how to use drinking straws, sewing thread, and a little glue to make a remarkably lifelike and useful robot hand.
What did you design your robot hand to do? Pick up a can? Move around a ping pong ball? With just a few basic instructions, these 7th graders designed any type of hand. The students then simulated human finger anatomy as the basis for a fully functional robot hand that was easy to build and did not require complicated tools.
