The importance of Black History Month can be summed up by two very important Adinkra symbols of West Africa. The first symbol is the Sankofa. It symbolizes "the wisdom of learning from the past to build for the future" (Designs by Faith). If the present generations can learn from the past generations of Social Reformers, Athletes, Entertainers, Religious Leaders, Scientists, Public Officials, Educators, Writers and Artists the possibility of erasing a heritage will surely be impossible.
